As we approach the Lunar New Year, we are about to officially enter the Year of the Rabbit. This is a change from 2022, the Year of the Tiger! While Tigers are bold and dynamic, Rabbits embody a gentler, more diplomatic energy.

Knowing your birth year animal and its relationship to the Rabbit can help you understand what kind of energy you can anticipate in 2023. Below, we are sharing a bit about nine of the zodiac animals and how you can make the most of this year based on your animal. If you don’t see your birth year animal below, be sure to check out Part 1!

Remember: This is just one piece of your astrology, and astrology is just one factor that affects your life. Even if this year presents challenges, those challenges can be a beautiful opportunity to grow. Life is also cyclical, and you have especially lucky years to look forward to as well!

  • Rabbit 卯

Easy-going and sociable, the Rabbit hops along with grace.

    Years: 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011

Rabbits are friends with Rams, Pigs, and Dogs. You may think that 2023 is a lucky year for those born in the Year of the Rabbit, but from a feng shui perspective, this can actually be a more challenging time. Before you start to panic, though, more challenges mean more opportunities for growth and expansion. In BTB feng shui we practice a protection ritual called the Golden Cicada that helps to smooth out the rough edges of your qi. If you’re interested, you can sign up here for a live workshop where we walk you through this ritual. For extra support, you can also carry a three-dimensional representation of a Dog, which is the secret best friend of the Rabbit.

Overall energy of the year: So-so

What to do: Use your grace and diplomacy to weather any challenges you may face this year, learn that these challenges are a gift, and hang out with dogs!

You are most compatible with: Pig, Sheep and Dog.

    You clash with: Rooster

  • Dragon 辰

Energetic, strong dragons fly through life with purpose.

    Years: 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012

Dragons are best friends with Monkeys, Roosters, and Rats. On the surface, Dragons and Rabbits are very different, and they are definitely not the best of friends. However, Rabbits and Dragons have a mutual respect for one another and can get along when they need to.

Overall energy of the year: Neutral

What to do: Use the quieter energy of this year to reflect on your accomplishments. Take your time, and fly up high in the sky to gain a clear vision of where to go next.

You are most compatible with: Rat, Monkey, and Rooster.

    You clash with: Dog

  • Snake 巳

Intellectual snakes slide through life with wisdom and grace.

    Years: 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013

Snakes are best friends with Rooster, Monkey, and Ox. Snakes and Rabbits both prefer a more quiet, thoughtful approach to life, so they can work together well.

Overall energy of the year: Neutral

What to do: Tap into your inner wisdom and enjoy the peaceful energy of the Rabbit.

You are most compatible with: Rooster, Ox and Monkey.

    You clash with: Pig

  • Horse 午

Strong, active horses will gallop by, looking for adventure.

    Years: 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014

Horses are best friends with Tigers, Dogs and Rams. The Horse’s bold energy may be too much for the peaceful Rabbit, but the Horse will not be too affected. The Horse’s fiery energy will also be fed by the wood element of the Rabbit.

Overall energy of the year: Neutral

What to do: Be mindful to take some time for self-care. Before you gallop off to your next adventure, try to also make space for peace and quiet.

You are most compatible with: Tiger, Dog and Ram.

    You clash with: Rat

  • Ram 未

Gentle and kind, but under that soft, woolly exterior is strong determination.

    Years: 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015

Rams (also known as Sheep or Goats) are friends with Pigs, Rabbits and Horses. Rabbits and Rams are both gentle, kind, and compassionate, and they make a great team.

Overall energy of the year: Supportive

What to do: Enjoy yourself, find some solace, and seek to align with the peaceful energy of the rabbit.

You are most compatible with: Rabbit, Pig and Horse.

    You clash with: Ox

  • Monkey 申

Clever, curious monkeys will charm others with their ap-peel.

    Years: 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016

Monkeys are friends with Dragons, Rats, and especially Snakes. This year may be a relief after last year’s clash with the Tiger. The Rabbit appreciates the Monkey’s quick wit, intelligence, and charming nature, but doesn’t quite trust the Monkey’s wily ways.

Overall energy of the year: Neutral to slightly beneficial

What to do: Stay curious, and take time to cultivate wisdom and thoughtfulness with your endeavors. The energy of the Rabbit year will help you to tap into these qualities that are not as natural to you.

You are most compatible with: Rat, Dragon and Snake.

    You clash with: Tiger

  • Rooster 酉

Articulate, astute roosters strut with confidence.

    Years: 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017

Roosters are best friends with Snakes, Oxen, and Dragons. They are precise, orderly, and talkative, which is quite different from the more reserved Rabbit. Both animals are sensitive in their own ways, but they don’t have the smoothest relationship. You may want to practice the Golden Cicada ritual and carry a 2023 Dog charm for support and protection.

Overall energy of the year: Challenging

What to do: Try to be more flexible and compassionate with yourself, and find ways to respect and embody the qualities of the Rabbit. Look for graceful and thoughtful ways to proceed, rather than pushing against things.

You are most compatible with: Ox, Snake, and Dragon.

    You clash with: Rabbit

  • Dog 戌

Loyal dogs look out for others and they are dogged protectors.

    Years: 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

Dogs are best friends with Tigers, Horses, and Rabbits. Rabbits and Dogs make a great team, and the Dog respects the Rabbit’s diplomatic nature.

Overall energy of the year: Supportive

What to do: Have fun and seek out new opportunities. You can also take more risks than normal this year since the energy of the Rabbit is on your side.

You are most compatible with: Tiger, Horse and Rabbit.

    You clash with: Dragon

  • Pig 亥

Good-natured and trust-worthy, Pigs are always there to help ‘snout’

    Years: 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019
