How to Work with Crystals and Feng Shui - Part 1

While not traditionally a part of feng shui, natural crystals can be a lovely way to enhance the energy in your home. Since they come directly from the earth, they really embody earth energy, representing groundedness, nourishment, and stability. Different crystals also have different meanings and qualities, so bringing a crystal into your home can help support a specific intention that you have. In addition, natural crystals come in a beautiful array of colors and shapes, so they can really add to your home visually as well as energetically.
There are many ways to work with crystals in your home. A great way to get started is to work with the feng shui bagua. The bagua is an energetic map that feng shui practitioners use when looking at a home. It has eight different areas, called guas, around a center, and each gua is connected to a particular aspect of life. If you want to learn more about the bagua and how to lay it on your home, download our free bagua kit. One way to work with crystals and the bagua is to find something in your life that you want to work on, and activate the corresponding area of your home by placing a crystal there with intention.
It’s best to just choose one or two guas (areas of the bagua) to work on at a time. It’s easy to get carried away and try to adjust everything all at once, but that can be overwhelming and less effective. Also, a life with everything perfectly in balance is not realistic. Rather than aiming for perfection, aim for improvement in a few select areas that feel most significant to you in this moment. You can always work on something else at a later time!
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing our favorite crystals for each gua. Here are three to get you started:
Activate New Beginnings with Green Quartz
The Zhen area of the bagua map is related to new beginnings, family, the wood element, and the color green. Green quartz is a beautiful green crystal that can be used to activate Zhen, which can be helpful if you’d like some support starting a new project, or if you want to invite more harmony and balance into your family life. Green quartz balances energy and enhances creativity, which can come in handy for that new project you’re working on, as well as coming up with new solutions to any sticky family situations that might arise.
Activate Abundance with Amethyst
Xun position is connected to wealth, prosperity, and abundance. In addition to things of financial and material value, Xun represents how we value ourselves. These two things are deeply connected: the more we value ourselves, the more abundance we can attract into our lives. We make as much money as our subconscious is comfortable with, so self-worth is an important piece of the puzzle if you are working on bringing more wealth and abundance into your life. To support feelings of worthiness, and to invite more prosperity, activate the Xun area with amethyst. Amethyst is a purple stone, which is also the color of Xun. It’s often used to invoke feelings of inner peace and relaxation, and to enhance intuition. All of these things can support you in trusting that you are worthy, and trusting that abundance of all kinds is already on its way to you.
Activate Health with Tiger’s Eye
Tai qi isn’t technically a gua, or area, of the feng shui bagua map. Instead, it’s the center of the bagua, which also plays a very important role. Because it is in the center, it touches all other areas of the bagua. It represents your overall health and wellbeing, and it affects all other areas of your life. It’s connected to the earth element, and it’s a helpful area to work on if you are feeling ungrounded or out of touch with your center. Because of its connection to the earth element, crystals can be especially supportive in this area. Tiger’s eye is a great stone to activate Tai qi. It helps you feel grounded and centered, and can also boost courage and optimism. Tiger’s eye also helps you get out of your comfort zone and try new things, which is often the first step to making any sort of meaningful change in your life.
Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3, where we’ll share our favorite crystals for the rest of the guas!
